Flowers are borne close to the ground by a floral tube and differ from Spiloxene flowers that have a distinct stalk. The rootstock is a corm and the flowers are star shaped. Leaves are lance shaped. It grow in damp clay and granite flats and lower slopes in the Southwestern Cape. It flower from April to June. </p>

It flower from June to November. </p>

Each flower only lasts from about noon or early afternoon to sunset on one day. The one or two leaves are narrow and trailing, emanating from the stem, not the base (Manning, 2007). Plants grow in deep sands and rockysandstone and in granitic soil. Subspecies fugax is found in Namaqualand, but also southwards to the Western Cape. It flower from August to November. </p>

It belongs to the Iridaceae family. The flower has a star-shaped yellow patch in the centre covered in fine speckles. The central star is delineated here by angular lines at the base of the six tepals. This plant is poisoness. Can be found from Namaqualand to the Southwestern Cape. </p>

In moderate, coastal areas the fruits appear through the year. The fruit can be eaten out of hand or made into pies, jams, jellies, and sauces. </p>

Its fruits are edible and are grazed by tortoises and other animals. Can be found from Namaqualand to the West Coast. Flower during August to December. </p>

The yellow flowers are solitary, 100-150 mm in diameter. Fruit is fleshy, edible and 35 mm in diameter, shaped like a spinning top, on a winged stalk, becoming yellow and fragrant when ripe. Can be found on the coastal slopes from Namaqualand to the Eastern Cape. It flower from August to October. </p>

This coastal shrub grow in neutral or alkaline sands from Namaqualand to the Eastern Cape. It flower from June to December. </p>

It flower from April to September. </p>

Although the flowers resemble Haemanthus coccineus, the leaves are tough and leathery, rounder in shape with a distinct reddish margin and always flat on the ground. This plant flowers from January to April and is in leaf from April until November. Can be found in the sandy and loamy slopes in the Western and Eastern Cape. </p>

<h5>Veldskoenblaar or April fool Lily - "Haemanthus sanguineus" </h5><p>Haemanthus pubescens ssp. arenicolus is distinguished from the others by having soft pubescens on the undersides of the leaves, sometimes glabrous. The leaves are channeled and recurved.Haemanthus pubescens is found on the sandy coastal plain from southern Namibia to Cape Town. In habitat it flowers March to April and is in leaf from March to October. It has 4 to 5 large fleshy spathe valves which surround the bright red or sometimes pink flowers. There are three subspecies. Bulbs are laterally compressed and form clumps. Since the basal disc persists the bulbs are usually elongated and often have an extended root zone. Can be found in the sandy flats along the West Coast. It flower from February to April. </p>

It cannot photosynthesize and is fully dependent on its host for all its nutrients. It attaches itself to the roots of the host and absorbs all it needs from the host. This plant does not bear normal-looking leaves but the stems are covered in small, appressed, scale leaves. The whole plant is usually one colour, deep carmine red to orange or rarely yellow. Most likely pollinated by sunbirds. The host plants of this root parasite are restios of the genus Willdenowia and daisies in the genus Othonna. It flower from September till December. </p>

They are only partial parasites as they only draw water and nutrients from their hosts. They produce their own carbohydrates from their own green stems and leaves. The flowers are followed by sticky edible berries on which birds feed, which stick to their beaks and are then wiped off on the branches of another host. The seed soon germinate, putting out a strong root which bores into the vascular tissue of the host tree to start a new life cycle. </p>

Individual side branches can grow to a length of 0.6 m. They are commonly found growing in disturbed areas. The plant is cultivated for its oil. The leaves can be rubbed into the hands to soothe calluses and scratches. It can also soften cracked heels and skin. It can also be tied to a piece of rope and used in the bath as a skin and wash treatment which also soothes rashes. A tea made from the leaves was an old remedy used by people from the Cape to treat kidney and bladder ailments, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and flatulence. The plant grows on the coastal dunesand flats from the West Coast to KwaZulu-Natal. It flower from September to October. </p>

They are oval to obovate and sessile. The flowers appear solitary in leaf axils. There are five petals to a flower, positioned separate from each other and marked with red at the corolla mouth. Can be found in the coastal sands and limestone in the Southwestern and Southern Cape. It flower from June to October. </p>

The plants have bulbs with thick long fleshy roots. During the winter the bulbs grow, and in late spring the leaves begin to die. In mid-summer the plant start to flower. They are in shades of white to pink. The flowers last 2 to 5 days. </p>

<p>It is a slender perennial which grows to 20 to 40 cm with smaller tube and fleshy leaves surrounded at the base.
The leaves of Bulbine praemorsa are thickly succulent. The flowers are usually yellow. it is common and wide spread mostly on the rocky sandstone slopes in Namaqualand and the Southwestern Cape. It flower from June to September. </p>

It grows to 60 to 100 cm tall, with large clumps of broad, arrow shaped dark green leaves up to 45 cm long. It flower from January to December each year and has a pure white spathe up to 25 cm and a yellow spadix up to 90 mm long. </p>
